Understanding legal terms simplified

Meal Break

In California, a meal break is a required, unpaid 30-minute period for employees to stop working and eat, usually provided when their shift is over five hours.

Mediation

Mediation is a process where a neutral third party helps people in a dispute communicate and reach their own agreement, rather than having a judge make a decision for them.

Medical Payments Coverage

Medical Payments Coverage helps pay for medical expenses if you or your passengers are injured in a car accident, regardless of who was at fault. In California, this is an optional part of your auto insurance policy.

Minimum Wage

Minimum wage is the lowest hourly rate an employer is legally required to pay their workers. In California, this rate is set by state law, and can be even higher depending on local city or county laws.

Misdemeanor

In California, a misdemeanor is a less serious crime, typically punishable by up to one year in county jail and/or a fine, as opposed to more severe felonies.

Mortgage

Определение: In California real estate, a mortgage (often legally a Deed of Trust) is a loan you take out to buy a property, using that property as collateral to guarantee repayment.
